Podcast #1 - Global Warming Aug. 29, 2006
Forgive the small production issues, but there is a real issue we have to address. The threat of Global Warming is very real. Its effects are being felt now. On this podcast, we will discuss the effects that are being felt now, the predictions for the future and what we as the people can do now to help reverse its effects. This will be a constant topic in some ways as I know I failed to mention other solutions, but I encourage you to learn about them. Write your local or federal legislator. Call your favorite talkshow. Talk to a co-worker, family or friend about reducing greenhouse gases. Thanks for listening.

Your Name Address City, State, Zip Code Phone Number Email Address

Dear Mr. (or Madam) Mayor,
I am a resident of the City of ________ and a registered voter. As a voter, I hold my responsibility to vote with great pride and do my best to educate myself on many issues that affect my city, my state and country. Recently, I have begun to educate myself on the issue of Global Warming and Climate Change. It is my belief, along with that of the scientific community, that this is a real threat to our planet. On September 16 - 17, thirty mayors from throughout the United States went to Anchorage, Alaska, to attend a meeting called, “Strengthening Our Cities: Mayors Responding to Global Climate Change.” At this meeting, the mayors along with U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, met with business leaders, climate scientists and local community leaders to discuss Climate Change and the ways that cities can reduce their output of greenhouse gases including carbon dioxide or CO2. I believe it is all our duty, to ourselves and our children’s future, to reduce our carbon footprints. However, since our federal government is slow to react to this issue, I am writing to you. Since your office did not attend, I am respectfully requesting you to attend this meeting next year and look into the possibility of attending similar meetings that may occur in this state or elsewhere in the United States.
Even if you don’t believe that our climate is changing, there are valid economic reasons to do this. According to the press release issued by the Mayor’s office in Anchorage, “In 2004 alone, the 147 cities taking steps to reduce emissions saved $600 million in energy costs.” Please do what can be done to reduce and help reverse a very real threat to our world. Even if it is just to save our city lost money due to increased energy costs, it can be a start.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Your Name

Podcast #5 - Racism is NOT Border Security Sept. 29, 2006
Enough! Pat Buchanan's tireless rant about Immigration and our Nation's security is nothing more than hidden racism. On this podcast, I will deconstruct his interview on Bill Maher's Real Time from Sept. 15, 2006. That hidden behind his message is bigotry at its finest and that protecting this nation comes from guarding all our borders - not just the one to the south. Immigrants, especially Mexicans, will no longer be your Boogey Man, Pat! Plus, we have two new sponsors and two "What a Weinie" Awards to hand out and, as always, a Global Warming Update.

“At a Cabinet meeting today, Attorney General William P. Barr said nearly one-third of the first 6,000 riot suspects arrested and processed through the court system were illegal aliens..." More than 60% of those arrested during the riots were born outside the United States (Washington Post, May 20, 1992, Page A02).
More than half the rioters in Los Angeles were immigrants or illegal aliens. Although the full racial breakdown of the 15,000 arrested rioters was not available as this was written, of the 7,066 looters who had been categorized by race, 49 percent were Hispanic, 40 percent were black, and nine percent were white. [George Ramos, Unrest widens rifts in diverse Latino population, Los Angeles Times, May 8, 1992, p. 1A.] Some ten percent of the arrested rioters were illegal immigrants, [Patrick McDonnell, Scores of suspects arrested in riots turned over to INS, Los Angeles Times, May 6, 1992, p. B3.] |
